Description
The Coliseum was commissioned in 1921 as a memorial to LA veterans of World War I (rededicated to all United States veterans of WWI in 1968) and opened in 1923. A pair of life-sized bronze nude statues of male and female athletes atop a 20,000 pound (9,000 kg) post-and-lintel frame formed the Olympic Gateway created by Robert Graham for the 1984 Olympic Game. Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is a large outdoor sports stadium in the University Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, at Exposition Park, that is home to the Pacific-12 Conference's University of Southern California (USC) Trojans football team. It is located next to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena in Exposition Park, across the street from USC.
